Case Study: Key Waste Solutions

At Prime we are proud to have assisted many clients through their whole business life cycle. 

One such client is Key Waste Solutions Ltd, a waste brokerage and consultancy business based in Solihull. Company owner Martin Fortune runs the business with his wife, Caroline, and manages a small number of employees. Martin became a client in 1999 with one of Prime’s previous firms Raftery and Co and throughout the time since, both our businesses have gone from strength to strength.

Martin has been running the business since 1998 and provides customers with a range of tailored solutions and has worked with some of the UK’s top Blue Chip organisations to provide a complete end to end waste management solution. Their services include waste audits, total waste management services, specifying, designing, supplying and servicing waste handling equipment, secure product destruction and creative financing options. They deal with commercial and industrial businesses and have been particularly successful working with food and beverage manufacturers and distributors.

Working with Prime, Martin has managed to develop the company throughout his career and has reached a stage where he was planning for life after business. Prime were available to provide advice to Martin as he sought potential buyers and gave advice on the tax implications of the sale and how best to structure any potential deal to ensure Martin and Caroline maximised their return out of the company.

Martin has also met with and taken advice from Glen Callow, director of Prime Wealth, to plan his retirement by establishing the funds he requires to live his desired lifestyle. Glen used advanced cashflow modelling software to project Martin’s future, taking into account key milestones as well as shares and investments.

“Although it’s disappointing to not be acting for the business going forward the client service we have provided Martin over the years is the level of service we aim to provide for all clients. It’s the perfect example of how understanding both the business and the personal interests of the directors, results in providing appropriate advice that meets both objectives. We’ve assisted the business over the years with tax compliance and statutory filing deadlines and we’ve assisted Martin to run the business by providing advisory services and key information which assisted with the growth of the business which has resulted in Key Waste Solutions becoming an attractive proposition to a third party. We have now planned for Martin’s life after business and the work undertaken by Glen and the team can leave Martin assured of his future.”

Now that Martin has sold the company, he has agreed to continue as an employee for 3 years to help ensure a smooth transaction as the business moves into its next stage. For when the time comes, we would like to wish Martin and Caroline all the very best in their well earnt retirement.
