National Payroll Week is here, celebrating the people who put money in our pockets every month

National Payroll Week falls between September 7 and 11 to celebrate those who work tirelessly to ensure that millions of workers across the country are paid accurately and on time, every time.

Every time you are paid, there is somebody behind that payslip who has worked out the tax, pension deductions owed and then filed that with HMRC.

Prime Accountants is a leading accountancy firm based in the West Midlands, providing proactive payroll support for businesses across the UK.

Martin Farrell is a senior payroll manager at Prime. He said: “The Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals organises this event every year to highlight the process that affects nearly every employee in the UK.

“Yet it is often the case that payroll professionals are forgotten about when they are the unsung heroes of payday.”

It is often the case that Small to Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) struggle with payroll processes. However, payroll professionals are here to offer support with that.

Kerrie Given is an Associate Director at Prime. She said: “SMEs tend to have greater struggles with payroll than any other business structure.

“From issues with manual errors, missed deadlines and compliance issues, they tend to be the businesses that find it the most challenging.

“If your business is having difficulties with payroll processes, it can decrease employee trust and create reputational damage.

“While many people don’t consider what goes behind the scenes, we think about what happens in people’s lives. If a payday is missed, people can’t pay their bills and feed their children – outsourcing payroll decreases that burden.”

A study in 2024 found that over 52 per cent of UK companies now outsource their payroll.

Martin said: “We understand that payroll processes can be a lot for SMEs to manage. That is why we are here to offer support.

“We have spent considerable amounts of time learning the ins and outs of payroll practices so that you don’t have to worry about it.

“Recently, we have even taken the leap and invested in new technology after reviewing the software market to ensure that payroll processes can be as smooth as possible for our clients.”
