Emotional night as Midlands firm recognised for commitment to children facing serious illness
Prime Accountants was crowned Corporate Supporter of the Year at the Birmingham Children’s Hospital 100 Heroes Awards on Sunday, in recognition of its longstanding commitment to seriously ill children and their families.
The award was announced at a ceremony held on 22 March, where members of the Prime team joined fellow supporters, fundraisers and hospital staff to celebrate those making a difference to young lives across the region.
The independent accountancy firm, which has offices across the Midlands, has raised more than £113,000 for the charity over the years.
The team’s efforts have ranged from physically demanding group challenges to hands-on volunteering within the hospital itself.
Prime also sponsors the hospital’s stem cell transplant ward, helping to fund an environment where some of the most vulnerable children receive highly specialised care.
One of its most notable fundraising efforts saw the team take on a 24-hour endurance challenge, climbing the equivalent of seven times the height of Mount Everest on treadmills.
The original target of £19,000 was quickly surpassed, with support from clients and the wider community helping the total reach £30,000.
Away from fundraising, staff have spent time with young patients and their families, from helping with craft sessions to creating a festive welcome at the hospital’s Santa’s Grotto.
Katie Harris, Corporate Partnerships Manager for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, explained why Prime were given this year’s honour, “I nominated Prime Accountants for this award because they’ve supported us for over 10 years and during that time, they have raised more than £100,000 for us.
“That’s seen them take on some incredible wacky challenges, from climbing Everest seven times over to rowing from Birmingham to Venice, as well as volunteering in our grotto. As a team, they are just really passionate about supporting the charity and making a difference.
“Prime Accountants have won this award because they are such a dedicated group and that really shows in all that they have achieved.
“They have put so much time and effort into organising their challenges, not only raising a phenomenal amount but making a huge impact. That’s the real driver for it and we couldn’t be more grateful.”
Jamie Skelding, Director at Prime Accountants Group, said: “When they announced us as this year’s winner, and we watched the video of Katie congratulating us and explaining why we were chosen, it was a special moment for us, and honestly, where it all began to sink in of how long we have been doing this and how appreciated our efforts are.
“Over the years, we have met children and families facing situations most of us can hardly begin to understand. Those conversations stay with you and they change how you see things.
“We couldn’t be prouder to support Birmingham Children’s Hospital and all the incredible work they do to support seriously ill children.
“This award belongs just as much to the people who have supported us along the way as it does to our team. Our clients, our friends, the wider community. Their kindness has made all of this possible.”
Prime Accountants Group has confirmed it will continue its partnership with the charity throughout 2026, with further fundraising plans already underway.
