Prime Accountants Group director and Solihull resident Luke Edwards reflects on his first year back as an accountant in Solihull and looks ahead to the firm’s growth in 2026.
Bringing two decades of experience to Prime
Luke has more than 20 years’ experience working in audit and accounts across a diverse range of clients, specialising in providing strategic financial guidance and compliance.
After working his way up to associate director at a mid-market accounting firm, Luke stepped up to director level in joining Prime in October 2024.
Regaining the local feel at independent Prime
Luke said: “Previously I worked in Rugby for 13 years, but I only live 10 minutes from Prime’s Solihull office so it’s been nice to be back.
“Being here in Solihull has made it much easier to be involved in Chamber of Commerce events and outside work events, all back home in an area I’m familiar with.
“That’s really helped me settle in and the year’s flown by – if anything it feels so much longer!”
Luke credited Prime director Kevin Johns with helping him settle in, adding: “He’s helped me massively – he’s passed everything he can onto me and he’s basically ‘Mr Solihull’ – so when you’re going to events with him, everyone knows him and it really helps getting to know local professionals.”
Prime Accountants Group is now the largest independent accountancy practice in the West Midlands and Luke said being part of an owner-managed business was a huge driver in him joining.
He said: “My previous firm, where I had spent 13 years, was a similar size but it merged with a multinational firm, which has becoming increasingly common in our industry. To go back to that same feel at Prime is brilliant – as an owner-managed business, you’re dealing with the people who own the business and it really helps get things done.
“Just to get a simple question answered in a bigger firm can takes days, weeks, even months. Here, if you make a good suggestion to the management, they will say go for it, which is really refreshing.”
Teamwork between offices
Luke said one of the biggest plus points of the job is the integration between Prime Accountants Group’s three offices in Solihull, Birmingham and Coventry.
He added: “The integration is as good as I could ever have imagined. Everyone works together and is joined up – it feels like one big team, not a company with three offices.
“We are well set to grow even further while maintaining the independent, personal service we are best known for.”
